Sauna facilities are often presented at public and private swimming pools, gyms and sports centers, and complexes of physical education of college or university. This may be a separate area where swimming wear may be taken off or a minor amenity in the swimming pool area where one should be dressed in the bathing wear.
Due to many circumstances, temperatures approaching and exceeding 100 °C (212 °F) and this would be completely intolerable. Saunas conquer this problem by controlling the humidity. The hottest Finnish saunas have very low humidity levels, which allow air temperatures that could boil water to be tolerated and even enjoyed for long periods of time.
Some other types of sauna, like the hammam, where the humidity approaches 100%, will be set to a much lower temperature of around 40 °C (104 °F) to compensate. The “wet heat” can cause scalding if the temperature were set much higher.
More proper control over the temperature experienced can be achieved by choosing a higher level bench for those wishing a hotter experience or a lower level bench for a more moderate temperature.
It is important not to keep the door to a sauna so long that it cools the sauna for those that are already in it. A draft, even if at 100 °C, may still be unwelcome.
Infrared saunas are growing in popularity. They use far infrared rays thrown out by infrared heaters to create warmth.
You have to know that saunas can be dangerous. They can cause heat prostration or the even more serious hyperthermia. The cool shower or plunge afterwards always leads to a great increase in blood pressure. That’s why it is very important to people with a history of stroke or hypertension to be careful.
Finnish like to add a few centiliters of beer into the water that is poured on the hot stones produces the scent of the grain used to brew the beer. Sometimes other scents can be used, for example tar or eucalyptus. But traditionalists can censure such experiments.
There are lots of saunas some of them are not just a sex-free, but also almost a gender-free zone.
In the dry saunas people sometimes sits on a towel for hygiene and comfort.
Some hotel sauna facilities and especially cruise ships have an area where they keep refreshments (often alcoholic). This is certainly in conjunction with the sauna-pool area.
Often modern saunas can offer you as an additional facility one or more jacuzzis.
